The transportation needs of visitors to Lake Louise are adequately met by local buses, which travel around the village and to a number of outlying locations. Those visiting Lake Louise during the summer months may be interested to use the Vista shuttle buses, which transport passengers to Moraine Lake every 30 minutes, from 08:30 until 19:30 or thereabouts, stopping at various places of interest en-route.

Just over a two-hour drive away from Lake Louise, along Highway 1 / 16 (Trans Canada Highway), Calgary International Airport lies around 195 km / 121 miles to the easy. Considered to be one of the premier air facilities in the whole of North America, Calgary Airport links more than 70 different destinations worldwide and throughout Canada, including the Canadian cities of Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, and also Winnipeg. The main airlines are spread around three concourse areas and include Air Canada, Air Transat, Thomas Cook Airlines, United Airlines and WestJet. Ground transport includes shuttle buses, charter services and taxis. Further away but within reach of Lake Louise are both the Edmonton International Airport (YEG) and the Vancouver International Airport (YVR).

Bus transport in the Lake Louise Village is always an exceedingly popular way to travel around and the resort's bus terminal is to be found outside of the Samson Mall. Local buses connect a number of outlying destinations and attractions, with the most popular of these including the townsites of Banff, Canmore and Jasper, and stretches of the Icefields Parkway. Further afield, Greyhound buses travel from Lake Louise to Calgary at regular intervals throughout the day.

Many daily passenger trains travel through Banff and close to Lake Louise, although very importantly, they do not stop at all. However, the journey is particularly scenic and passengers are treated to some truly awesome views. Rocky Mountain Rail Tours are available between April and October, and travel to and from Banff and Jasper, on Sunday, Tuesday and also Thursday. Of note, there are also reliable passenger trains which travel between Vancouver and Banff.
